The portrait genre was a fundamental vehicle for the fostering of an artistic group culture. The portraits that the artists of Brücke made of each other, the practice of self-portrait and the representation of scenes of work or rest involving the painters in their workshop, make up a set that is intentionally eloquent, that illustrates the union between art and life pursued by this group of creators.
