Memory

Four Greek heads remind us of the role of classical sculpture in his training. Carmencita Playing (1959–60) and Lucio’s Balcony (1962–90) evoke the small town of Tomelloso in La Mancha and Madrid, the two places in which he has spent his life. The subject of both paintings is the roof terrace as an intermediary space between the home and the world, between intimacy and the horizon.
