Sorolla: single Portraits

Sorolla’s concept of the portrait was less highly meditated that Sargent’s and responded more directly to the chance circumstances of the commission. Although it was not his most favoured genre, Sorolla executed numerous fine works within this field. The group of canvases on display features both portraits of family members and other figures from the artist’s artistic and intellectual circles.
