Sargent and Sorolla: group Portraits

Sargent and Sorolla were notably close in their approach to group portraits and in their manner of resolving them. Both artists aimed at innovation in their portraits of the bourgeoisie, imbuing the genre not so much with solemnity as with the grandeur of the Baroque court portrait.
