Sorolla: Projects for the Hispanic Society

Sargent and Sorolla undertook their respective commissions for major mural paintings for public institutions with enormous enthusiasm, devoting many years to these projects. In 1910 Sorolla embarked on the commission for the mural paintings for the Hispanic Society in New York, a series traditionally known as The Regions as Spain. In contrast to Sargent’s cycle in Boston, Sorolla aimed to revive the great realist tradition of Spanish Golden Age painting.
